Hazardous Materials Delivery Truck Driver – Netcong

General Job Summary:

This is a Full Time Seasonal Position (Usually October-March with intention to return the following season).

Drivers Deliver hazardous petroleum products from one place to another in a tanker truck with in the Monroe and Northampton Counties, PA and Warren, Morris and Sussex Counties, NJ area.  Delivers in a manner that ensures compliance with laws and policies while meeting company and customer satisfaction. Drivers will ensures safety in accordance with company policy, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Department of Transportation while completing a minimum of 28 deliveries within the designated delivery area.  Drivers will work on a 5 day per week basis during off peak seasons and 6 days per week during peak seasons.  Drivers will maintain a clean work area and clean appearance in order to represent the company in the best manner possible promoting a strong brand image.  Drivers assist the supervisor and company dispatcher with other related duties.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Maintains the safety  and functionality of the delivery equipment and tools
  2. Plans delivery routes in a cost effective and efficient manner
  3. Delivers hazardous materials in a safe and efficient manner while ensuring safety and compliance with company, local, state, and federal laws and regulations.
  4. Communicates effectively with dispatcher, fellow truck drivers, and supervisor
  5. Prepares all required repots completely and properly
  6. Maintains and secures all appropriate documents and equipment.
  7. Be punctual and maintain neat appearance.
  8. Provides customer satisfaction and resolves minor customer disputes
  9. Trains and evaluates performance of new delivery hires
  10. Performs other duties as needed and directed by supervisor

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the delivery territory: Monroe County, Northampton County, Warren County, Morris County, and Sussex County.
  • Knowledge of company products, services, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation’s laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of Environmental Protection Agency’s rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of Homeland Security Safety Regulations
  • Knowledge of spill control, clean up,  and containment for hazardous materials
  • Knowledge placards and safety procedures and manuals
  • Knowledge of first aid and fire extinguishing
  • Skill in operating delivery equipment; such as: delivery tanker truck-both manual and automatic transmission, meter, and other delivery tools.
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Skill in performing simple math: counting money, filling out checks, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and determining appropriate tax calculations
  • Ability to work in poor work conditions: bad weather and holidays
  • Ability to use a calculator
  • Ability to operate 2 different types of meters
  • Ability to lift 75 pounds
  • Ability to pull 100 pounds
  • Ability to ensure accuracy of reports
  • Ability to sustain customer retention by negotiating with and resolving minor customer disputes.

Education and Experience:

No formal education or level of education is required however the following credentials are required: a valid commercials driver’s license with the following endorsements: hazardous materials, air brakes, and tankers.  A homeland security clearance is also required.  A minimum of 3 years CDL driving experience is required with a clean driver’s record.

Physical Requirements:

Seeing:  Must be able to read delivery tickets, map, various reports and notations, direction signs, street signs, and numbers on properties. (75%-100% of the time)

Hearing: Must be able to hear enough to determine when vent alarm indicates tanks are full and to be able to hear communications between office personnel, employees, customers, and vendors. (75%-100% of the time)

Standing and Walking: Must be able to walk to and from loading and transfer points and stand at loading and transfer points during the delivery. (75%-100% of the time)

Climbing/Stooping/Kneeling: Must be able to stoop and kneel to fill tanks as well as climb over obstruction to get to loading and transport point, which may include ladders, fences, staircases, and small walls 3 feet and under. (25-49% of the time)

Lifting/pulling/pushing: Must be able to lift approximately 75 pounds and pull approximately 100 pounds. (75%-100% of the time)

Physical Requirements Continued:

Fingering/pulling/grasping: Must be able to carry, apply, and remove various adapters, use calculators and write with pens, and two way radio and phone.

Working Conditions:

Disagreeable work conditions: working in poor weather, heat, cold, and at times cramped dirty spaces.
